Logroño in 48 hours

Three ready-made breaks, with morning, afternoon and evening. Everything starts on foot from the apartment or a short drive away.

Wine and pintxos weekend

The classic Logroño plan: wineries, Calle Laurel and a trip to the wine villages.

Day 1

  1. Morning

Stroll along the Espolón and Calle Portales to La Redonda co-cathedral, about 12 minutes away. Inside is a Crucifixion attributed to Michelangelo.

  2. Lunchtime

Vermouth and your first pintxos on Calle Laurel, already lively from 1 pm. Start with the mushroom pintxo at Bar Soriano or Bar Ángel.

  3. Afternoon

A tour and tasting at Bodegas Franco-Españolas, across the Iron Bridge (about 20 minutes on foot), or at Arizcuren, an urban winery right in the centre.

  4. Evening

A pintxo crawl along Laurel and Calle San Juan: the “matrimonio” at Blanco y Negro, the patatas bravas at La Taberna del Laurel and a glass of wine at Tastavin.

Day 2

  1. Morning

Drive to Haro, about 35 minutes away: century-old wineries in the Barrio de la Estación.

  2. Lunchtime

Pintxos in La Herradura, Haro’s bar quarter.

  3. Afternoon

On the way back, stop at Laguardia, a walled town with wine cellars dug under the houses, or at Elciego and the Marqués de Riscal winery.

  4. Evening

Afternoon drinks or a nightcap on Calle Bretón de los Herreros.

Logroño with kids

Science, riverside walks, a legend with live chickens and plenty of room at home to rest.

Day 1

  1. Morning

The Casa de las Ciencias science centre by the Iron Bridge (about 18 minutes on foot): hands-on exhibitions and free entry.

  2. Lunchtime

A flat walk along the Ebro to the Stone Bridge. Look out for the Camino de Santiago shells on the ground.

  3. Afternoon

The free Museo de La Rioja on Plaza San Agustín, then a wander through the old town.

  4. Evening

A relaxed dinner at home: full kitchen, the Alcampo supermarket next door and board games in the living room.

Day 2

  1. Morning

Santo Domingo de la Calzada, about 40 minutes away: a live rooster and hen live inside the cathedral, thanks to the pilgrim legend.

  2. Lunchtime

On the way back, Nájera and its Santa María la Real monastery, with the cave from the falcon legend.

  3. Afternoon

If you’d rather be outdoors, La Grajera park is 10 minutes by car: a reservoir and trails for walking or cycling.

San Mateo, the grape harvest festival

The liveliest week of the year. In 2027 the main day is Tuesday 21 September. Times below are from 2026 as a guide: check the programme and see our festivals post (in Spanish).

Day 1

  1. Morning

The grape treading on the Espolón on San Mateo day, at noon. Arrive early to get a good spot.

  2. Lunchtime

Pintxos on Calle Laurel. It gets packed during the festival, so go early.

  3. Afternoon

A visit to one of the city’s wineries to toast the harvest.

  4. Evening

Fireworks from La Ribera, usually at 11 pm, and the fairground at Las Norias.

Day 2

  1. Morning

Vineyards in full harvest: drive up to Laguardia or San Vicente de la Sonsierra, with views over the whole Rioja Alta.

  2. Afternoon

Festival atmosphere in the old town and afternoon drinks on Calle Bretón de los Herreros.

  3. Evening

If it’s the last Friday, the Burning of the Barrel in the Town Hall square, at 10 pm, closes the festival.

Opening times and prices can change: check before you go, especially winery visits, which usually need booking.
